I am performing Spoken Poetry @ PASHI’s Zimbabwe fundraiser. It will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Imhotep Charter High School in Philadelphia. This is a family friendly event from noon to 5 pm, with entertainment, children’s activities, an auction, holistic health information, an African Marketplace, and more.
PASHI (Pan African Sisters Health Initiative) is raising funds to help send a delegation to The 7th International Conference on Arts for Social Transformation in Zimbabwe, in November, 2023. Maisha Ongoza, the driving force behind PASHI, will deliver the keynote address.
Since 2019, PASHI, a community-based volunteer project in Philly, has produced and distributed thousands of reusable menstrual pads, bags, and other personal hygiene items to various countries in Africa, to other diverse places throughout the Diaspora, and locally in the Philadelphia region.
“We are fundraising to send a delegation to Zimbabwe to share and educate on the many benefits of reusables and conduct classes on how to make the pads. We will also be taking donations of pads, sewing materials, educational supplies, and other materials,” Maisha Ongoza explains.
A teaching artist, as well as a committed activist, Maisha Ongoza also recently gave the keynote address at the National Period Poverty Awareness Day in Sharon Hill, PA, an event cosponsored by the Sharon Hill Art and Culture Commission in partnership with the Delaware County Women’s Commission.
